Adaption Project Part B- New Idea

Disney Version of Pinocchio.
For the Adaption Part B I've decided to start again with a character that has more to them and allows me to adapt further. I've chose the story of Pinocchio, but this has been shown as a heart-warming  and whimsical tale due to Disney's adaption, so I went back and looked at the origins of the tale.
Originally it was an Italian child story written by Carlo Lorenzini in 1883, after reading through the story, it appeared to be a lot darker. Pinocchio kills Jiminy Cricket with a hammer, His feet are burnt off and Pinocchio is hanged.

The story was used to express Carlo Lorenzini's political views of the Unification of Italy in 1830. During this time there was also the Europe Revolutions, so i've decided to base this Pinocchio during the Revolution in France, as this will allow a lot more choices in design of the character. Pinocchio will be based on the effigies, which are dummy-like figures that are hanged during the protests, this would relate to the hanging of Pinocchio in the original story and some effigies resembled puppets as well.

The overall look will be suitable for an older audience, and it will be somewhat similar to elements seen in Tim Burton films as they use aspects that are gritty and dark.

Infographic- Art style Research

For the style I will focus on a high contrast of colour and vector based graphics. So I've looked into the american 1920's Art Deco style, which will be perfect to give these elements.

Production Art- Deck chair

Showing different options for how the Deck Chair prop will look, using part of my original 2D painting. Next to it are images used for influence. Originally I researched into a range of versions of a Deck Chair, yet I want the prop to be a symbol of relaxation as well as the character's retirement from being a superhero.

Script to Screen- Initial research

Image Board- Script to Screen

The images below I came across while searching for super heroes. They are of a sculpture called L'Hospice created by artist Gilles Barbier, and shows representations of retired iconic super heroes. This is a concept that could be incorporated, showing what a superhero does when they have finished being a hero. So to fit into an Art Gallery, I could have the hero as maybe working at the art gallery as the janitor or security guard at the gallery. I will upload some storyboard images to show this idea in more depth.

19th Century Amazon

Just stumbled across this 19th Century Realism painting by François Auguste Biard, this will be a major influence to my work, as in this piece it portrays a somewhat secret Amazonian lair. Yet I will need to try to combine elements of this with elements of a jester, such as the colours used in most Jester attire.

Amazonian Jester- Research Influence Images

Influence Images 1

So For this project my focus will be on the lair of an Amazonian Jester. I've started with researching into original Medieval Jesters and what the main characters which represent this character, which will aid me with the hero prop later in the concept. As well as looking into a range of different tribes, and the colours and materials used eg: feathers, furs, straw etc.

Influence Images 2

While on Google I came across an article on the national geography website. This article was about a lost tribe originally from the Amazon Forest called the Chachapoya tribe "Cloud Warriors". So by researching into more depth I found images of the ruins, which will help greatly with the space that I will create.
